USA, Canada: This was announced by Josee Ouellet, Vice-President Services North Americas at Alstom.
She was commenting on the news published by ROLLINGSTOCK at the end of 2024 about the inking of a contract to operate the Los Angeles Metrolink regional rail network.
According to Ouellet, since the acquisition of Bombardier Transportation in 2021, Alstom has become the largest private rail operator in North America, with more than 100 mln passengers carried per year.
The company provides revenue service on a number of US main lines: Camden connecting Baltimore with Washington, Brunswick between Washington and Martinsburg, Sunrail in the Big Orlando, Florida, and NJ Riverline between the cities of Camden and Trenton.
In the US, Alstom operates automated systems at New York, Atlanta, Dallas, Phoenix, San Francisco and Newark airports. A similar system will soon be launched at the Los Angeles airport.
In Canada, the company is responsible for operation of Metrolinx in Ontario, West Coast Express in British Columbia, Edmonton LRT in Edmonton and EXO in Montreal. It is worth noting that CRRC also supplies coaches for the latter. In cooperation with AtkinsRéalis, Alstom is also providing passenger services and maintenance on the REM in Greater Montreal.
ROLLINGSTOCK was therefore wrong to report that Alstom would be providing passenger services in the USA for the first time, and we would like to apologise to all readers, subscribers and interested parties.
