Türkiye: A corresponding clip showing the assembly of a two-section vehicle at the Adapazarı site has been published by the operator Metro Istanbul. The video shows several stages of the tram’s production, as well as its finished interior, including the driver’s cab. This is the first time the operator of Türkiye’s largest city has built a tram in-house.

The high-floor TRAM34 is designed for both tramway lines and light rail lines. At 25 m long, each vehicle accommodates up to 216 passengers and can reach speeds of up to 80 km/h.

The TRAM34 project was launched in 2023 by Metro Istanbul together with Istanbul Rail System Department. The tram was developed by local engineers, and the intellectual and industrial property rights belong to Metro Istanbul. A localisation level of 61% is claimed. That said, a number of key components remain imported, in particular, the tram is fitted with traction motors from Austria’s TSA and gearboxes from Germany’s Voith.

The first order for Istanbul comprised 34 trams for €80 mln, said to be 30% cheaper than foreign equivalents. Entry into service of the TRAM34 on Istanbul’s T4 line is scheduled for December, with delivery of the entire batch to be completed by the end of 2027.
