Russia: Sberbank Leasing has won the re-tendered procurement, Yekaterinburg mayor Alexey Orlov has announced. Separately, the Ust-Katav Car-Building Plant (UKCP) has confirmed to ROLLINGSTOCK that the rolling-stock supply contract under this order has been signed with Sberbank Leasing.
The starting price of the leasing contract was RUB 13.2 bln incl. VAT ($184 mln), with the lease running to the end of 2033. The first 20 trams are due by 30 September and the remainder by 25 December. During the bidding, Sberbank Leasing offered to deliver for RUB 10.9 bln incl. VAT ($152 mln), 17% below the starting price; the other bidder went 16.5% below.
Under the tender documentation, the order calls for low-floor single-ended trams of no more than 29 m in length, with a passenger capacity of at least 150. The vehicles must carry batteries giving an off-wire range of up to 300 m, and the interior must include at least one wheelchair space.
Yekaterinburg currently runs 17 three-section 71-639 Kastor trams from UKCP (pictured) that meet the specification. The first prototype was bought from UKCP after trials in 2024. Fifteen more followed under a June 2025 contract, and a further unit was added in December 2025.
