Russia: The Ust-Katav Car-building Plant (UKCP) has won the city of Yekaterinburg’s tender for the delivery of one three-car low-floor tram, as ROLLINGSTOCK knew from Roman Novikov, UKCP’s General Director.
He stated that the city would officially receive the 71-639 Kastor tram upon signing the contract. According to the tender documents, the procurement is worth RUB 174.6 mln (USD 1.75 mln), including VAT.
This is going to be the first ever delivery of a three-car low-floor model from the largest tram manufacturer in Russia. UKCP has previously worked on a similar project, but only a prototype vehicle was developed, without putting it into production.
As for the 71-639 Kastor tram, it was presented in March 2024 in Chelyabinsk, where it was undergoing testing. Further, the vehicle was sent to Yekaterinburg for a trial run. The tram boasts a length of 25.8 m, which is the shortest among other three-car low-floor trams manufactured in Russia. Another key advantage is the vehicle’s ability to negotiate curves of 14 m. With a rated capacity of 187 passengers, the tram has 64 standard seats and one for wheelchair users. The vehicle’s maximum speed is reportedly 90 km/h.
Meanwhile, Yekaterinburg has issued one more tender for the supply of one single-car tram at a cost of RUB 83.8 mln (USD 836,000), including VAT. As reported by 66ru, the winner of this tender is PC Transport Systems. The city authorities have also announced that another 100 trams are planned to be purchased in 2025 and 2026, but further details about the procurements are not revealed.
