Türkiye, Iraq: The two-axle tram evokes the design of historic Franco-Belge trams that were produced for over a century in Belgium and which remain in use in Istanbul. It is reported that the vehicle is ready to be delivered to Baghdad, where it will run on 1,435 mm gauge lines.
While boasting a classic aesthetic, the vehicle is thoroughly modern beneath its retro exterior. It is powered by a 120 kW·h LFP battery, providing an operational range of up to 150 km. Recharging time is reported to be between four and ten hours. The tram can accommodate up to 60 passengers and has a maximum speed of 20 km/h.

The unit features driver cabs at both ends, with traditional mirrors have been partly supplanted by video cameras. Notably, the tram is fitted with a high-capacity air conditioning system engineered to withstand extreme temperatures. Garatren emphasises the use of components sourced from local suppliers and software developed domestically in Türkiye.
Since 2024, trams of this model have already entered passenger service on the historic T2 line in Istanbul’s European district (shown in the main photo). The long-term strategy for this route involves the gradual replacement of all older trams with the new battery-electric units, ultimately allowing for the complete removal of the overhead line equipment.
