USA: The Utah Transit Authority has signed a contract with the Swiss manufacturer for the supply of up to 80 Citylink low-floor light rail vehicles. The initial $129 mln contract is for 20 tram-trains at $6.45 mln each.

From 2028, the new fleet will replace the SD-100 and SD-160 tram trains built by Siemens between 1998 and 2003. The Cilylinks can carry 14% more passengers than the vehicles currently in service. Production will take place at the Stadler plant in Utah, which the company opened in Salt Lake City in 2019 in compliance with Buy America Act.

Stadler’s backlog of orders is showing continuous growth. Recently, the manufacturer received orders for unmanned trains for the Los Angeles Metro. This follows orders for up to 16 BEMUs for Chicago and up to 30 FLIRT H2 hydrogen trains for California.
