Switzerland: Testing of two seven-section vehicles delivered in February is set to begin shortly in the city.
The trams will operate on the new Line T1, which runs over 4.6 km between Lausanne and the neighbouring town of Renens. The line will mark the return of trams to Lausanne, where services were discontinued in 1964.
The 45 m Tramlink can carry up to 316 passengers, including 80 seated. Each side has eight double-leaf doors fitted with sliding steps. Three multi-purpose areas in the saloon are provided for prams, wheelchairs and bicycles. The bodyshells are built from high-strength stainless steel.
The contract for 10 trams was awarded to the Swiss rolling stock producer by Lausanne public transport operator tl in autumn 2022. The new fleet is due to enter service in December. Deliveries were originally scheduled to begin last summer; Stadler attributes the delay to flooding in Valencia, which affected the company’s plant and its suppliers.
