Russia: The single-car LRV was presented in Barnaul on Russia Day, 12 June. Soyuz Group’s establishing its own production of trams was announced last year.

The fully low-floor Granit tram 16 m long and 2.55 m wide can accommodate 145 passengers, including 39 seated. According to Vladimir Otmashkin, General Director of Soyuz Group, the tram’s body is made of stainless steel with aluminium and plastic elements. The interior features a climate control system and nine heaters.

The bogies for the tram are reported to be produced at a local plant. According to the manufacturer, the total capacity of four motors is 244 kW. The control system is of the Ust-Katav Car-building Plant production.

To launch serial production of trams, a department of one of the city’s plants has been renovated, and the necessary equipment is currently being bought, as noted by Mr Otmashkin. From 12 to 24 trams per year are planned to be manufactured there. It has been earlier estimated that Barnaul needs 200 trams to update the fleet. The latest trams procured for the city are from BKM Holding, Belarus.
