Sweden: The three-car partially low-floor tram has been undergoing refurbishment since June 2024 at the company’s plant in Ostrava, Czechia. The tram is scheduled to enter service this summer.

The door systems of the trams were upgraded to include electric drives instead of electric ones. The tram was fitted with electric-hydraulic brakes, renewed interior elements, control systems, lighting, heating and air-conditioning equipment.

Škoda Group and Swedish operator Västtrafik signed a contract worth €79 mln in 2022. The work includes the refurbishment of the entire fleet of 79 M3 trams, which extends their service life by 15 years, with gradual launch until 2030.

The trams were manufactured by the Swedish company ASEA between 1984 and 1992, with a low-floor section added between 1998 and 2003. The overhaul, which took place in the 2010s, included the replacement of electronic components and was performed at Ekova Electric in Ostrava, acquired by Škoda Group in 2021.
