UK: Initially planned for late 2025, commissioning of the first Inspiro trainsets is now postponed till the second half of 2026.
London’s transport authority TfL explains the delay by some issues that emerged during preparations for the operational testing of the first train, delivered last autumn. As a result, the tests have been deferred and are expected to commence this summer.
Though no details have been disclosed, the operator notices that the train construction requires slight adjustments, which will also be applied to the whole fleet of 94 trainsets, ordered in 2018. In addition, TfL outlines that the complexities are connected to some extent with the dated tunnel infrastructure, given that part of the line was built nearly 120 years ago.
The nine-car walk-through Inspiro trains will accommodate over 1,000 passengers and run up to 100 km/h. For Siemens Mobility, this is the first order from London Underground.
