Spain: Two more Urbos trams have complemented the fleet of four five-car LRVs of the same model deployed since 2011.
The new Urbos 100 trams have a different exterior design and several improvements in traction and energy storage systems. The trams operate on the catenary-free Metrocentro line of 4.2 km in the centre of the Spanish city.
All the trams are equipped with the roof-mounted ACR supercapacitors weighing around one tonne. The ACR batteries are recharged in less than 2 minutes via pantographs at the stops. Having an average operating speed of 20 km/h, each tram accommodates 250 passengers.

The contract worth €33 mln for the delivery of the two trams was signed in 2022. The agreement also includes four years of maintenance and an option for three more LRVs.
Similar trams fitted with supercapacitors are produced by other manufacturers as well. For example, in 2023 the line served by such vehicles from CRRC was launched in China. Meanwhile, Alstom’s trams with supercapacitors operate in Nice, France.
