Russia: Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin has launched the single-car Lvyonok 71-911EM tram on route 10 under the experimental legal regime.
Earlier, the tram covered more than 8,000 km without accidents in a test mode since May 2024. Two lab trams to test new software were put into service as well.
The rolling stock is fitted with the GoA3 level automation system, i.e. the operation is driverless, but there is a driver in the cab in case of an emergency. The software is developed by the Centre for Autonomous Transport Research, a subsidiary of the Moscow Metro.

It is expected that by the end of 2026, 15 automated trams will be in passenger service in Moscow, with this number increasing to 300 by 2030. It was previously reported that the transition to full unattended operation, GoA4 level, is anticipated before 2027.
