Norway: The five-car SL18 tram, the Urbos 100 platform, fitted with cameras and sensors, was put into public service.
Machine learning will use the collected data to develop a driver assistance technology. This technology will be able to distinguish between situations with a safety risk and situations that are harmless, predicting the behaviour of other traffic participants, helping to avoid collisions and the need for sudden braking. The unmanned operation had been previously tested in a depot.

The joint project of the Spanish company and the operator Sporveien Oslo will last till September 2026, with two trams fitted with the system. This experiment is carried out under the EU-backed R2DATO research project to advance rolling stock automation in Europe.
CAF has been developing the technology for several years. In addition to Oslo, it was tested in Zaragoza, Spain, in 2022.
