Russia: Oktyabrsky Electric Railway Car Repair Plant, OEVRZ, has said that the new trainset is heading to the Avtovo depot. The unit will undergo comprehensive testing of all systems and equipment under conditions simulating real operation.
The assembly of the first Baltiets 2 at OEVRZ began in April. The vehicle is expected to enter service on the Purple line of St. Petersburg metro in the end of the year. The train’s manufacturing forms part of a major 950-car supply contract for the city.
Compared to the original Baltiets models that have been serving St. Petersburg metro since 2022, the new trainset will differ in a colour scheme and technical improvements. Previously, it was announced that the upgrades would include redesigned door actuators and control units of doors, modernised driver’s control panel, improved connecting elements, replacement of tread brakes and traction inverter components. Minor interior modifications are also planned.
