Under the 2021–2022 contract and option, the operator Cottbusverkehr has ordered 22 such trams. They will add to and partly replace the Czechoslovakian Tatra KT4s, produced in the 1980s. The purchase of the first seven vehicles is financed 45% by the city, 35% by the state of Brandenburg and 5% by the federal government. The other trams can be financed by the Investment Bank of the State of Brandenburg.
The German cities are one of the main customers for Škoda Group trams today.
