The Department of Transportation of the Russian capital has reported about the delivery of the STS270 vehicles which were ordered in 2023 to replace the ageing fleet as well as to improve the track maintenance of the Moscow metro.
As noted by the Department’s representatives, the new track vehicles feature improved noise insulation inside the cab, a climate-control system, a crane unit, and additional seats for workers. According to the tender technical specifications, the vehicle ought to be equipped with a diesel engine of the emission standard not lower than Euro-3 and have a hydromechanical automatic transmission. The required design speed is 60 km/h.
Initially, the tender was won by TMCP, Tikhoretsk Machine Construction Plant, but later the contract worth RUB 1.5 bln ($16 mln) for the delivery of 41 track maintenance vehicles was awarded to the TMH plant in Mytishchi. As reported by Moscow Metro’s press office to ROLLINGSTOCK, the TMH plant has engaged STS, a company specialising in modern traction systems, into the project, and the latter has patented a production prototype of the new track maintenance vehicle in January, 2024.
