Japan: Ordered by the passenger operator, three four-car trains will be launched on a 2.8 km Yamaguchi line in Greater Tokyo.
The EMUs with longitudinal seating will have places for kids, areas for wheelchairs, and information systems. Each trainset will be designed individually, for example, the first vehicle will be painted in the local baseball club’s colours.
The new trains are scheduled to be launched step by step from 2025 to 2027. They will completely replace the 8500 series vehicles, operated since 1985, by Niigata Iron Works, which was disbanded in 2007.
Mitsubishi’s backlog includes unmanned rubber-tyred Crytal Mover trains and urban Urbanismo EMUs. The first ones are operated in Singapore’s metro and the airports of the USA, the UAE, South Korea, and Hong Kong. The others are launched on several lines in Greater Tokyo and Hiroshima in Japan and Macao in China.
