USA — The Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York (MTA) has approved the purchase of an additional 435 metro cars from Kawasaki Rail. Starting in 2027, the car builder will supply 80 R211T cars with gangways and 355 R211 without them. The order, worth approximately $1.3 bln, is part of MTA’s Capital Plan for 2025–2029 and is being exercised as the second option of the 2018 contract with the Japanese company. A total of 1,175 cars have already been ordered, having been entering service from 2023.

Thailand — A consortium of Siemens Mobility and Bozankaya will supply 53 three-car metro trains to Bangkok under a contract that also includes 15-year maintenance of the fleet and installation of signalling and communication systems. The trains will be assembled at Bozankaya’s plant in the vicinity of Ankara from components supplied by the German company. Plans to purchase new trains were announced by BEM, the Thai capital operator, in the middle of the year.
Türkiye — Bozankaya has won a tender for the supply of 22 five-car 32.5 m long trams to Izmir. The contract was awarded despite the fact that the Turkish company’s bid was slightly more expensive than CRRC’s, i.e. TRY 4 bln (€108 mln) vs TRY 3.6 bln (€97 mln). The reason is that Bozankaya’s victory was facilitated by a a 15% price advantage. Deliveries are expected within 3.5 years from the contract date.

USA — CAF has supplied eight Urbos 3 to Cansas City. A total of 14 three-car bi-directional LRVs have been delivered to the city since 2015. The trams were assembled at CAF’s plant in the state of New York. The first tram of the new batch is already in service, while others are undergoing trials.
