Latest deals and contracts on the light rail vehicles market.

Japan — Mitsubishi has completed the delivery of six-car automatic tyre trains for the New Shuttle system in Saitama. Compared to the previous five units delivered between 2015 and 2020, the latest train features improved design and climate control, as well as more seats for wheelchair passengers. The trains will operate on the New Shuttle system with S-curves with a minimum radius of 25 m.

Canada — The Toronto Transit Corporation has reissued its request for proposals for the supply of 55 metro trains. The tender was launched following the announcement of CAD 758 mln ($532.6 mln) in federal funding, in addition to a similar amount from the Ontario budget.

India — BEML and the operator of the Chennai Metro have inked a contract for 70 three-car driverless trains. The manufacturer offered the lower price of INR 36.6 bln ($430 mln) compared to Titagarh. Financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the rolling stock will be delivered between 2026 and 2029. Now, the Chennai metro operates trains built by Alstom.

Colombia, Chile — Two South American cities have ordered a total of 19 CAF Inneo metro trains for more than €200 mln. The Spanish manufacturer will supply 13 three-car vehicles to Medellín of Colombia. Assembled in a local depot, they will join a fleet of 38 similar trains manufactured between 2009 and 2018. Santiago in Chile, meanwhile, will receive six driverless five-car trains.

Russia — TMH has signed a contract to deliver another five-car metro train to Novosibirsk, Russia. The manufacturer was the only bidder in a tender worth RUB 864 mln ($8.4 mln), or RUB 172.8 ($1.68 mln) per car. In 2026, the city expects to receive a train based on the Baltiets platform, which will join four similar trains  ordered earlier: one directly from TMH and three via Sberbank Leasing company.

Belarus — The Minsk Metro announced a tender for the delivery of four five-car metro trains in 2025. The initial price is BYN 135.2 mln ($39 mln). The current contract for the supply of seven four-car Minsk 2024 trains for the capital of Belarus is being fulfilled by TMH.
