Recent deals and tenders in the urban rail transport market.
Russia — PC Transport Systems (PC TS) has completed the delivery of 111 LRVs for Saint Petersburg. The batch includes 17 single-section 71-911EM Lvyonok trams, 57 two-section 71-923M Bogatyr-M trams, 36 three-section 71-931M Vityaz-M trams, and one three-section bi-directional 71-932 Nevsky tram. The RUB 16.5 bln (USD 215 mln) contract with the city operator Gorelektrotrans was signed in 2023. Over the recent years, Saint Petersburg has received over 300 trams from the Russian manufacturer.
Czechia, Slovakia — Škoda Group is going to deliver a further 41 trams to Prague and Bratislava. The Czech capital’s operator DPP has exercised an option for 31 additional LRVs to a 2023 framework contract for 200 five-section ForCity Plus 52T trams. Currently, a total of 71 trams have been ordered. For its part, the Bratislava city operator has ordered the first batch of 10 bi-directional LRVs according to the contract for 40 vehicles signed with Škoda Group at the end of 2024. The trams, each at a cost of €3.9 mln, will be manufactured in partnership with ZOS Trnava, Slovakia. The delivery is expected in 2027.

Poland — Modertrans and Pesa will supply 30 trams to Kraków and Łódź. Modertrans has secured a contract for 15 Gamma LF 11 AC vehicles from the city operator MPK Łódź. The contract worth PLN 368 mln (€87 mln) includes an option for 15 LRVs. Previously, the city of Łódź received 30 Gamma LF 06 AC trams from this manufacturer. Another Polish manufacturer, Pesa, has been awarded an additional order from the operator MPK Kraków for 15 three-section unidirectional Twist 148N trams valued at PLN 273 mln (around €64 mln), excluding VAT. This is a third option to a 2025 framework contract for the delivery of up to 90 trams based on the new Twist 3.0 platform. 50 such trams have already been ordered. Both cities expect the LRV supplies in 2027–2029.

Russia — 17 three-section 71-639 Kastor trams have been put into service in Yekaterinburg. Following successful testing in 2024, the first prototype vehicle was purchased from the Ust-Katav Car-Building Plant (UKCP). A further 15 trams were delivered under a contract of June 2025, with the last one ordered in December 2025. This year, Yekaterinburg plans to buy another 50 three-section trams.
Romania — The city of Oradea is looking for a supplier of 14 hybrid tram trains. The Bihor County Council has announced a corresponding tender worth RON 462 mln (€90.6 mln), excluding VAT. The tender requirements specify that 11 vehicles are due to be powered by 600 V DC overhead lines and have a range of autonomous run, while the other three LRVs must be additionally powered by 25 kV AC catenary. The rolling stock is expected for delivery within two years.

Brazil — A consortium with CRRC has won a tender for the supply of 10 four-car metro trains for the city of Salvador. The Chinese manufacturer’s bid was BRL 490 mln ($93.5 mln), while its competitor Alstom offered BRL 614 mln ($117 mln). The French manufacturer claims it will lodge an appeal. Alstom has previously urged the Brazilian government to adopt obligatory local content rules for public procurements in order to deter expansion of CRRC.

Romania — Bozankaya will deliver 10 three-section trams for Timișoara. The Turkish manufacturer has been awarded the order worth RON 106 mln (€20.6 mln) upon winning a tender. 40 five-section Bozankaya trams are already in service in the Romanian city. They feature battery traction with a long catenary-free range.
