Recent deals and tenders in the metro train market.
Canada — Alstom will supply 70 six-car Metropolis metro trains to Toronto under a contract worth CAD 2.3 bln (about €1.4 bln, or €3.3 mln per train). Signed with Toronto Transit Commission TTC, the agreement includes an option for up to 150 additional trains. Production will take place at Alstom’s Thunder Bay plant in Canada.
Australia — A consortium including CRRC has been awarded a contract to supply 16 driverless metro trains for Sydney. The fleet will enter service in 2032 with the opening of the Sydney Metro West line. CRRC will also provide signalling and platform door systems. Competing bids were submitted by Alstom, Siemens Mobility, and Hyundai Rotem in consortium with UGL Engineering.

India — Chennai Metro has launched a tender for the supply of 28 six-car trains, with an estimated procurement cost of INR 28.2 bln (€267.5 mln). Delivery is expected by 2028.
Serbia — Alstom will deliver 32 metro trains to Belgrade for the city’s first metro line. The manufacturer has also been awarded the turnkey contract for its design and construction, valued at approximately €1 bln.

Bulgaria — Škoda Group has won a tender to supply up to 16 four-car metro trains for Sofia. The firm order placed by Metropoliten EAD covers eight trains worth over €71 mln. The trains will feature a safety system compatible with the Russian ALS-ARS standard. Škoda Group is currently fulfilling its first contract for eight similar trains with an option for eight more.

Russia, Belarus — The TMH plant in Mytishchi has completed metro train deliveries to Novosibirsk and Minsk. Novosibirsk Metro has received the last of 5 five-car Ermak trains ordered in 2024, while Minsk has taken delivery of two five-car Minsk 2024 trains under a 2025 contract for four units. Minsk Metro has also issued a new tender for three additional five-car trains with a maximum value of BYN 121.7 mln ($42 mln), to be delivered by the end of this year.
