Ukraine: Last week, the high-floor tram entered service on the city’s Metrotram line. The Tatra T3R.P, produced by Czech ČKD in 1986, was overhauled at the depot of the operator Shvydkisnyi Tramvai, which plans to upgrade two more cars by the end of the year.
The tram has had its entire interior and exterior renewed, with the redesigned nose boasting better visibility windows and rear mirrors offering a wider view. The tram has also been equipped with an electronic traction motor control system, which ensures energy savings of 40%. In addition, the driver’s cab now features air-conditioning.
Starting from 2015, a total of 19 tram cars have been refurbished at the operator’s depot. Ruslan Bozhko, Shvydkisnyi Tramvai’s Director, says that old bodies have been replaced with new ones since last year, allowing for extending the vehicles’ service life for 10-15 years.
