Iran: Tehran Wagon Manufacturing has been awarded an internationally valid licence following 18 months of testing of the first seven-car trainset.
In the first phase, the company will build 15 seven-car trains and one eight-car train, with a component localisation level of 85% instead of the 35% announced for the prototype. Tehran Wagon Manufacturing can build one car per day, while the demand for the Tehran metro is 1,500 cars and there is significant demand in other Iranian cities.
The development of the train has involved the collaboration of 25 research institutions and four plants. The Tehran plant is responsible for the car bodies, ventilation systems and information displays. Mapna Rail makes the bogies, Tivan Termez Raili will supply braking systems and automatic doors, and others are behind the traction and control systems and inter-car gangways.
