South Korea: The municipality of Daejeon has awarded the South Korean manufacturer a tender for 34 H2 trams.
The deal, valued at KRW 293.4 bln ($216.1 mln), includes the supply of signalling and traffic control systems. The trams will operate on Subway Line 2, a 28.8 km subway circular line with 45 stations, scheduled for launch in the end of 2028.
The trams will reportedly be equipped with hydrogen fuel cells produced by Hyundai Rotem’s subsidiary, Hyundai Motor, and lithium-titanate battery units. This will enable an operating range of 200 km with charging time of 10–15 m.
Following the conclusion of the research and development phase, which amounted to a total investment of KRW 42.2 bln ($31.1 mln), the prototype H2 was unveiled during past summer. The tram is currently undergoing a trial operation in Ulsan, with passenger service scheduled to commence there in 2029.
