Italy: The city public transport operator AMT has received the first four-car trainset produced at the manufacturer’s plant in Pistoia.
The rolling stock is planned to enter service on currently the only in Genoa metro line of 7.1 km this autumn.
The trainset of 39 m can accommodate 290 passengers. The interior also features two seating arrangements for wheelchair users. The trains equipped with the ATO system can run in multiple allowing operations of eight-car trainsets.
In 2020, the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport provided €70 mln for the Municipality of Genoa to purchase 14 metro trains. In 2021, the relevant contract was inked with Hitachi Rail. The remaining 13 trains are scheduled to be delivered in the spring of 2025. The new rolling stock is going to replace six trains produced by Breda, Italy, in 1990, thus lowering the average age of the fleet from 18.5 to 9.8 years.
