Vietnam: The Metropolis trains have been in trial operation since 8 August. They travel an 8.5 km elevated section of Line 3, which includes eight stations. The full-scale launch into revenue service is scheduled for September.

These are the first trains supplied by Alstom to Vietnam. Featuring four 1.4 m wide doors on each side, they can reach a maximum speed of 80 km/h, which is temporarily limited however to 35 km/h. The four-car trains can accommodate 950 passengers.

The €190 mln contract between Alstom and the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board was signed in 2017. It envisages the supply of ten trains as well as three CBTC and power supply systems for Line 3.

The construction of the line started in 2009. Initially, it was scheduled to open in 2015 but due to financial problems and the COVID-19 pandemic, the launch has been postponed several times. The remaining four km underground section is to be finished by 2025.
