Russia: At the end of last year, three low-floor T856 MiNiN trams entered service in Nizhny Novgorod, following nearly a year of trials and testing. According to the regional government, all 26 trams ordered are scheduled to enter service by the end of 2026.
The T856 is the first fully low-floor three-section model developed by BKM Holding, which announced plans for the tram back in 2021. The new vehicle accommodates up to 280 passengers, including 61 seated.

Production of the T856 involves both the BKM Holding facilities in Minsk and Nizhekotrans, a joint venture in Vorsma. The level of localisation in Russia has not been disclosed, although earlier reports noted that it would gradually increase. From the fourth unit onwards, the Belarusian manufacturer planned to supply only the bodies, bogies, and electrical equipment.
Established in 2022, Nizhekotrans is implementing a concession agreement to supply Nizhny Novgorod with 170 low-floor trams, including 144 single-section T811 models. According to VEB data, the city has so far received 133 vehicles.
