Turkiye: BEM, the company overseeing construction of Bangkok’s Orange Line metro, has released photos of the first three-car Inspiro trainset from the new order. It comes fitted with an automatic train operation system and has a top speed of 80 km/h.

Two trains have so far been assembled at Bozankaya’s plant near Ankara, using components supplied by Siemens Mobility. The first will shortly be sent to one of Siemens Mobility’s German sites for operational trials, while the second is currently being tested in Turkey ahead of a planned shipment to Bangkok in November.

Both trainsets face a six-month test cycle once they reach the city. The new stock is expected to enter passenger service at the end of 2027, alongside the opening of the line’s first 22.5 km section.

Siemens Mobility and Bozankaya signed the contract to supply 32 three-car trains for the Orange Line with Bangkok Expressway and Metro (BEM) at the end of 2024. The deal also covers 15 years of fleet maintenance and the installation of signalling, communications and platform screen doors.

This is the second joint order the German and Turkish manufacturers have won for Bangkok metro cars. Between 2018 and 2019, the pair supplied 22 Inspiro trains for the Green Line, also built in Turkey from German components – the project through which Bozankaya first built up its metro manufacturing expertise.
