India: The three-car Movia trains are now running on the first section of the 6.3 km Yellow Line of five stations.
Each steel-bodied train can run at a maximum speed of 80 km/h and carry 350 passengers, 50 of whom are seated. There are also designated spaces for people in wheelchairs.
The state operator Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited, MPMRCL, has already received 14 of the 25 trains, ordered in 2022. The first one arrived in Indore last spring, just 14.5 months after the contract was signed.
Alstom is to deliver a total of 25 three-car Movias to Indore, 27 Movias to Bhopal, including signalling systems, as well as provide 15 years of maintenance for the trains. The entire deal is worth €387 mln and involves producing the trains at the Alstom site in Savli, India as part of Make in India programme.
