Kazakhstan: CRRC’s plant in Tangshan, China, is currently manufacturing train bodies from an aluminium alloy.

This was stated by Astana’s passenger operator, City Transportation Systems. The first vehicles are to be ready by late May, with the delivery in Astana scheduled for September. Totally, the city is to receive 19 four-car trains, with their launch aimed at the beginning of 2026.

The rolling stock’s type is held in confidence, but the parameters correspond to the TRITON model, previously supplied to Izmir, Türkiye. The 60 m long trains will be able to accommodate 600 passengers and reach high speeds of up to 80 km/h. The vehicles will be fitted with the GoA4 level automation system in Astana.

The Astana LRT project has been under development since 2011. The construction of the line began only in 2017 but paused due to finance issues and bribery scandals. In March 2023 the work continued.
