Russia: The low-floor three-section tram arrived in the city in mid-November.
By the end of the year, the Ust-Katav Car-Building Plant (UKCP) plans to deliver five such LRVs to Chelyabinsk under the contract signed in August. The procurement is valued at RUB 995 mln (USD 12.6 mln), or RUB 199 mln (USD 2.5 mln) per unit.
According to UKCP, the bi-directional tram has a nominal capacity of 200 passengers. The interior features 66 seats and two additional spaces for people with reduced mobility. Two double and two single doors on each side of the vehicle will enable boarding and alighting. In addition, the tram boasts a reported range of over 15 km when full.
Notably, the manufacturer was developing the design of the tram in cooperation with the Ministry of Roads and Transport of the Chelyabinsk region. Yet, the model has not been unveiled. The vehicle is fitted with multimedia interactive displays for passenger information and an energy-efficient system for temperature control.
The rolling stock will be deployed on the city’s metrotram network that is expected to enter service in 2027. Before that, the new trams will operate on the existing lines.
