Italy: The full-scale mock-up of the vehicle’s head section was exhibited at the depot of Rome’s operator ATAC in the heart of Italy. It reveals a passenger interior with seats and areas for wheelchairs, and the driver’s cab.
The €457 mln framework contract to supply 121 five-car bi-directional tram was received in 2023. Under the firm part and an option implemented in October, Rome is to obtain 60 LRVs.
The 33.5 m long trams can transport 215 passengers, with 68 of them seated. The Urbos will also be fitted with traction batteries to operate on non-electrified sections of the net, a passenger counting and frontal collision warning systems. The deliveries are to begin in 2025.
The new vehicles are to replace the Stanga fleet, produced in Italy in the 1948–1950s and overhauled in the 1980s.
