Spain: A full-scale mock-up of a head car will be displayed at Plaza de Colón till late April, featuring a passenger interior with seats and areas for wheelchairs.
The Spanish manufacturer secured an order in 2024 to supply 80 six-car trains, with the contract value exceeding €850 mln, including maintenance. Production has already begun at CAF’s facilities in Zaragoza and Beasain, with the first trains scheduled to enter service in 2027.

Compared to the current six-car trains in operation, the new ones will have an increased passenger capacity from 1,200 to 1,400 people. In addition, the maximum operating speed will be raised by 33% to 110 km/h, while energy efficiency will improve by 20%. The vehicles will be able to travel in both semi-automatic, GoA2, and fully driverless, GoA4, modes.
