Germany: The company has recently delivered a two-car J series trainset to the Britz depot. Last year saw the Friedrichsfelde depot receiving a four-car vehicle of the same series. Testing is to begin soon, with operations planned to start in 2026. Meanwhile, testing of the first 12 JK series cars is already underway.
The J-series trains are designed for the large-profile U5-U9 lines, having wider, 2.65 m, and longer, 16 m, cars with three pairs of doors, in comparison to the JK series. Currently, 52 two-car and 33 four-car trainsets are ordered.
The city operator BVG has ordered 484 cars out of the 1,500 included in the framework contract. The J and JK trains are produced at Stadler’s plant in Berlin, which is facing economic challenges due to international instability and uncertainty with production volumes. In addition to software issues, this has led to delays in the first cars’ launch from the originally planned 2020 to September 2025.
