India: According to the manufacturer, the first six-car trainset is being constructed at the BEML plant of the city purchasing the rolling stock.
The company was awarded a contract for 53 such trains in August, 2023, having won Alstom, CAF, and Titagarh.
Each train is reported to be made of austenitic stainless steel and be able to run at a speed of 85 km/h. The vehicle will be equipped with an automatic train control system allowing for the highest level of unattended operation, GoA4, and motors by Mitsubishi, Japan.
The cost of the contract including 15-year maintenance is worth INR 31.7 bln ($378.5 mln). The procurement of the rolling stock is funded by a loan from JICA, Japan International Cooperation Agency. The trains will serve two metro lines, which are planned to be opened at the end of 2025 and in mid-2026.
BEML has delivered more than 2,000 metro cars to Indian cities in a consortium with Mitsubishi and South Korean Hyundai Rotem.
