Russia: The dedicated assembly shop has been opened at the TMH plant in St. Petersburg.
By the end of the year, two 71-431R Dostoevsky retro-trams are planned to be assembled there. As Interfax sites Valentin Yadritsev, its General Director, the plant is not occupied with manufacturing any elements for the trams. It is just receiving the frame and other components to perform the final assembly.
The discussion on partial relocation of Uraltransmash’s production processes started in spring. According to St. Petersburg’s authorities, the manufacturer has to extend the deadlines of the contracts as the company’s main site in Yekaterinburg is now engaged in executing orders for the defence industry.
Currently, St. Petersburg is the main customer for Uraltransmash’s trams. A total of 76 vintage-looking trams, varied in a number of cars, are to be supplied to the city. According to Transphoto, 11 three-car 71-431R Dostoevsky and 22 two-car 71-421R Dovlatov trams have been produced in 2023 and 2024.
