Germany: Alstom and Hamburger Hochbahn (HHA) have entered into a framework contract valued at up to €2.8 bln.
The scope covers up to 254 semi-automated and 120 fully automated (GoA4) DT6 metro trains, all consisting of four cars, and signalling equipment for U5, a new metro line of 25 km.
The firm order of €670 mln encompasses 48 trains and signalling solutions for five of the 23 stations. The 40 m long DT6s will be capable of operating up to three in multiple.
Production is scheduled to commence in 2026 at the Alstom site in Salzgitter. Two models will be released there: the DT6-F with driver’s cabs for use on the existing network and DT6-A without cabs for the U5 unmanned line. The first deliveries are anticipated in 2028 with the start of passenger operations on an inaugural section of U5 scheduled for 2029.
HHA’s tender for these trains was one of the first to include recyclability requirements for rolling stock.
