Alstom supplies first unmanned metro train to Taiwan

China: The stainless steel-bodied four-car Metropolis train was delivered to the Department of Rapid Transit Systems, Taipei.

It is designed to accommodate more than 700 people, with 108 of them seated. The trainset boasts an automatic train operation system of the highest automation level, GoA4.

Under the 2018–2020 contracts for Taipei Metro Line 7, Alstom is to deliver 35 trains, the Urbalis 400 Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system, and platform doors. The vehicles are to be launched together with the first section of the Line in 2027. Currently, Alstom is implementing an order to deliver 29 Metropolis trains for Taipei’s Circular Line.

The final assembly of the vehicles takes place at the plant in Taubaté, Brasil, bogies are supplied by the enterprise in Le Creusot, France, and the Urbalis 400 systems are produced at the facilities in Saint-Ouen, France and Bengaluru, India.
