Egypt: The first trainset of nine Metropolis cars has left the plant in Petite-Forêt, France, for the Egyptian capital.
Its 2,580 passengers can pass through wide gangways between cars, with special area reserved for women. 98% of its components are recyclable. The delivery also includes the predictive maintenance system HealthHub.
In November 2021, the National Authority for Tunnels inked a €876 mln contract with the manufacturer for the delivery of 55 trains and their maintenance over eight years. The project is funded by the French government.

Previous news reported that the final assembly, with 13.3% local content, would take place at SEMAF, an Egyptian plant. Now, Alstom no longer mentions this, but has signed an agreement to build two production facilities in the country.
