France: The manufacturer has delivered the first of 35 Citadis 402 low-floor trams to the Lyon’s Public Transport Authority SYTRAL.
These were ordered back in September 2021 under an option worth €115 mln. The vehicles will be assembled at its site of La Rochelle, with production taking place at seven sites in France.

The new rolling stock is identical to the 15 trams delivered in 2020 and 2021, featuring a redesigned nose ensuring better visibility for a driver and greater protection of pedestrians in the event of a collision. Another notable feature of Citadis 402 for Lyon is the optimised handrail position. Each 43.7 m tram can accommodate up to 287 passengers.

The Lyon’s tram fleet comprises 106 trams, of which 73 are five-car Citadis 302 and 34 are seven-car Citadis 402. In 2021, SYTRAL has chosen Alstom to carry out another project to upgrade 47 Citadis 302, delivered between 2001 and 2004.
