Sweden: This five-car Flexity tram (or M34 in Sweden) is expected to begin trials in the near future. The vehicle is 45 m long and is capable of accommodating 319 passengers.
Sixty trams, worth €120 mln, have been purchased as part of the exercise of 2021–2022 options to a 2016 contract between Bombardier Transportation (acquired by Alstom in 2021) and Vossloh Kiepe (acquired by Knorr-Bremse in 2017). Forty M33 three-car trams under the firm part have already been delivered to the city.
The new model, the M34, an extended version of the M33, is expected to enter service between this December and 2026, replacing the M29 trams built by Swedish company Hagglund between 1967 and 1972.
The city of Gothenburg is also served by 65 low-floor M32s built by AnsaldoBreda (acquired by Hitachi Rail in 2015) in 2004–2012 and 80 partially low-floor M31s, 79 of which are now being refurbished by Škoda Group.
