India: The vehicles, which will be exported starting next year, will be built by the Diesel Locomotive Factory in Marhowrah, a joint venture between the American car-builder and the Indian national operator that began manufacture in 2018.

Although the countries of destination and volume of deliveries are not disclosed, it has been announced that the JV will offer ES43ACmi diesel locomotives (WDG-4G class in India). This summer, Guinea placed an order for such vehicles.

The six-axle dual-cabin ES43ACmi locomotives are equipped with a 3.3 MW engine. The Marhowrah plant is currently fulfilling a contract to supply 700 these locomotives and 300 more powerful WDG-6G vehicles to Indian Railways. According to Wabtec, the localisation of production exceeds 70%. This high level is conditioned by the Make in India programme. To date, the operator has received around 650 diesel locomotives of both series. The plant is said to have the capacity to produce 100 locomotives per year.
