Uzbekistan: Two O’zbekiston freight and passenger electric locomotives have been overhauled, delivered to the Uzbekistan locomotive depot in the Tashkent region and have already entered service. The O’zbekiston series was developed by Germany’s Siemens Mobility and built in China in 2003–2004.
The contract to modernise 12 electric locomotives was signed between Uzbekistan’s national operator and China’s CRRC in August 2024. It also covers the supply of 38 freight and passenger electric locomotives, diesel locomotives and shunters on an instalment basis until 2034.
As part of the work carried out, the rolling stock was fitted with the BORT locomotive safety system by TMH Smart Systems (TMH IS), as well as video surveillance and RLSM-10 radios. The installation of these systems on the locomotives, along with their commissioning and static and dynamic testing, was handled by subsidiary Transtelesoft.
The on-board video surveillance records activity in the cabs and engine compartment, and also captures events and infrastructure along the locomotive’s route. According to TMH IS, the BORT system had previously been used in Uzbekistan only on TEM2 shunters. To date, however, the system has been fitted to a fleet of more than 800 traction units operating in Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
