USA: The first two SC42-DM units were introduced at the Harmon Shops of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in Croton-on-Hudson, New York.
The vehicles are reported to have completed testing at the MxV Rail centre in Pueblo. The locomotives are to be launched on New York’s suburban railway, Metro-North, early in 2025.
The new locomotives will replace the General Electric P32AC-DM hybrid units, produced in the 1990s. It is said that while the P32AC-DMs operate on electric power only on a 6.5 km section, the SC42-DMs are expected to do the same over the entire 164 km of Metro-North third rail territory.

On non-electrified sections, the SC42-DMs will use the 3.1 MW Tier 4-compliant engines. The maximum speed will be 177 km/h and 128 km/h respectively with diesel and third rail.
In 2021 and 2023, MTA ordered 33 SC42-DM locomotives from Siemens Mobility, with the total amount of the deal reaching $414 mln.
