Ukraine: The tender is published on the website of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as part of the Repairing Essential Logistics Infrastructure and Network Connectivity project of the World Bank.

The national operator is seeking a loan of up to €300 mln from the EBRD and an investment grant of $190 mln from the US government to be provided via the World Bank.

Bidders are anticipated to propose the supply of 80 electric locomotives under either two contracts, one for 30 and another for 50 vehicles, or a single contract for 30 locomotives. The dual-system locomotives need to be capable of operating at a maximum speed of 120 km/h.

In 2022, Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) had hoped to contract Alstom for the delivery of 130 electric locomotives. However, the conflict in the country hindered the negotiations. This year, the company has received approval for a loan for 40 diesel locomotives from Wabtec.
