Türkiye: Last week, the city of Eskisehir witnessed the handover ceremony for five E5000 mainline locomotives to the national operator TCDD. The contract for the delivery of 95 locomotives was signed with Türasaş in spring 2024.

The locomotive was developed by TÜBİTAK RUTE, a railway technology institute. Following the tests, it was certified as compliant with TSI requirements. This 5 MW electric locomotive can operate at a maximum speed of 140 km/h.

Turkish Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu has revealed that the project involves 115 component manufacturers, which are said to supply domestic engines, traction converters, transformers, bodies and control systems.

A further 15 locomotives are expected to be delivered and commissioned this year, with 30 and 45 vehicles scheduled for 2026 and 2027 respectively.
