Germany, Japan: The double-cab diesel locomotive ST-S-1380-D was built in 2022 by the German manufacturer as a one-off unit commissioned by a Japanese steel plant.

The four-axle locomotive has a weight of 140 t (axle-load of 35 tf) and is used to haul trains carrying rolled steel and other cargoes weighing up to 1,400 t on 1,067 mm gauge tracks.

The locomotive measures 16 m in length and 2.9 m in width. It can deliver a tractive effort of up to 345 kN, reach speeds of up to 20 km/h, and operate on gradients of up to 19.2‰. The unit is equipped with pneumatic devices for adjusting and releasing couplers.

Each axle is powered by its own traction inverter with an individual slip and slide control system. Brake resistors combined with cooling fans for the 1,380-kW diesel engine ensure quiet operation. To further reduce noise, the underframe, bogies and axles are shielded with sound-insulating covers.
