China: Last week, the first narrow-gauge six-axle R200 diesel locomotive departed from the station in Hualien City, hauling eight flatcars with containers and trucks.
The Taiwan Railway Administration plans to launch three more locomotives in the near future.
Eurodual-based vehicles feature two driver’s cabs with sound insulation and heat protection from extreme temperatures. The diesel locomotives are capable of hauling trainsets of up to 2,000 t on 1,067 tracks. The locomotive is equipped with Cummins 2 MW engines, enabling it to reach a maximum speed of 120 km/h with a starting tractive effort of 430 kN.
The contract, worth €165 mln, was signed for the delivery of 34 diesel locomotives in 2019, produced at a plant in Valencia. The first two locomotives arrived in Taiwan in June last year.
