Germany: The company has unveiled characteristics of the projected four-axle EURO DuFour at Transport Logistic in Munich, as reports Railmarket News.
The first vehicles will be operated by Swiss company SBB Cargo, which ordered 35 multi-system electric locomotives.
The EURO DuFour is an evolution of the EuroDual six-axle locomotive. The standard 7 MW EURO DuFour, which has a starting traction effort of 350 kN, will be designed for use on 15 kV and 25 kV AC lines and and 1.5 kV and 3 kV DC lines. Hybrid models will be powered by catenary and diesel engines of up to 1 MW or batteries of up to 2 MW.
The EURO DuFour will weigh 80 t in basic configuration and 90 t in the battery version. It is expected to compete with electric locomotives Vectron from Siemens Mobility and Traxx from Alstom.
