Germany: The Polish producer and the logistics operator Väte Rail signed an agreement of intent at InnoTrans 2024.

In addition to the locomotive, which is to be delivered within two years, Pesa will establish a refuelling infrastructure.

At the same time, the producer announced the development of a catenary-hydrogen shunting locomotive powered by Ballard fuel cells. The prototype will be ready in 2026 or 2027.

According to Pesa’s CEO Krzysztof Zdziarski, the Swedish project will receive the next generation of hydrogen locomotives developed on the basis of the prototype SM42-6Dn. It was approved for operation in Poland last year and its operation was demonstrated to a Swedish delegation this summer. Väte Rail CEO Jan Forslund revealed that the operator plans to renew its fleet of 20 shunting diesel locomotives by 2030.
